The Surrealists Zoetrope

For the Surrealists exhibit at Te Papa, we wanted to do something different – but we could hardly show any of the artwork as it was still in Europe and tangled up in copyright and estate issues. We settled on showing people’s reactions to the artwork itself. For the promos, we filmed the reactions, editted the video together, printed out each frame, then roughed up the frames and reshot them flipping on a home-made zoetrope to get the old-timey animation effect in camera.
